Stump and Zeiss: What Love Is and Killer Pad

According to Dave Stump, ASC, Zeiss digital lenses are "beautiful, clean, crisp and well coated. And so accurate, they allow me to push the envelope to get quality shots in some of the most challenging situations.

"The DigiPrime® lenses let you work wide open with the assurance you can be tack sharp at the focus point. Forthe feature, What Love Is, we had a crane shot that revealed the entire population of a local neighborhood bar." Stump began the shot high then tracked into a tavern, walking along the bar with almost a macro image as people passed phone numbers, dialed phones, and then "we tilted up close on Cuba Gooding Jr.," he explains. "The lens held up incredibly well!"

Stump put the DigiZoom™ 6-24mm to the test on the Robert Englund-directed feature, Killer Pad. "I love to use it as a variable prime because of its useful focal range," he adds. "You can do every shot in a sequence—close-ups, mediums and wide angles—perfectly matched because they were done on the same lens! Everything ends up the same color and even matches the rest of the DigiPrimes in color, feel and sharpness.

"We had a close-up of the lead actress' eyes. At wide open, we got this sparkle, which was exactly what we needed. I wouldn't have trusted any other lens to get the sparkle.

"I use the 70mm DigiPrime as a close-up lens," Stump continues. "When you push in and get close with it, you get a filmic look in terms of depth-offield. Zeiss Digi lenses are my favorites. The care & consideration Zeiss has put into them is amazing."
